A no hassle guide to cleaning your fridge

A no hassle guide to cleaning your fridge

When was the last time you cleaned your fridge? A fridge is the heart of the kitchen, we rely on it to store our food and keep it at the desired temperature, and research shows that we don't clean them nearly as often as we should. A neglected fridge is not just a sorry sight, it can also house harmful dirt and bacteria you don’t want near your food. Here’s a quick guide on effective, simple, fridge cleaning:

Clear the decks

Take all food out of the fridge and remove the shelves and drawers. It will make cleaning much easier and you won't contaminate your food with cleaning products.

Deep clean

Clean all the surfaces, including all the nooks and crannies, with a soft cloth using a mixture of warm water and dishwashing liquid. Be sure not to clean plastic materials with detergents that contain alcohol.

Get the extras

Clean the gutter and the discharge opening for the water from the thawed frost deposits. A drinking straw is great for this.

Thaw it

Defrost the freezer compartment everytime the frost build-up is more than 3-5 mm thick. Or, at the very least, before your drawers are frozen shut. If you hate defrosting, our NoFrost appliances make this annoyance a thing of the past.

Maintenance

Prevention is always better than the cure. Make sure your fridge stays as clean as possible, wipe all spills as soon as they appear and always throw away outdated food.

Method

Cut aubergines and blanch them in boiling water for 5 minutes. Blanching will soften the aubergines, making them tender and succulent. Cook penne to your desired consistency and slice chillies into thin strips, discarding the seeds if you want to reduce heat. Peel and finely slice garlic cloves. Heat a pan with 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Fry the aubergines and garlic and season before adding the chillies and chopped plum tomatoes. Finally add cooked penne and fry for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Garnish with basil and grated mozzarella for an authentic Italian touch.
